16 JAN 2025 -- Tony is the General Manager

The weather forecast for 20-23 JAN 2025 is horrible.
Freezing weather all week.
Tarps will be spread on Saturday.
Course will reopen when weather permits.
No Games Scheduled for this week.

Next Week's Schedule

27 JAN 2025 -- Monday --  Three Tee Times beginning 0900 - Show Time 0830
 29 JAN 2025 -- Wednesday -- Three Tee Times beginning 0900 - Show Time 0830
30 JAN 2025 -- Thursday -- Two Tee Times beginning 0900 - Show Time 0830

15 AUG 2024 -- We are an aging group. All our games will now be played from the Whitestone Red Tees. The home course handicaps have been changed to Whitestone (Red Tees) such that the handicaps now displayed on the handicap listing are the Red Tees handicap.

Please Review the Local Bunker Rules Below

Whitestone Red Tee Handicaps can be seen by clicking the button at the top left.
Whitestone White Tee Handicaps are 5-6 strokes more.

11 SEP 2024 -- Closest to the Pin is part of the Skins Game. In order to claim a skin, you MUST put your name on the proximity marker. If the marker is picked up and there is no current name on the marker, then a skin will not be paid for that hole. NO EXCEPTIONS. So do not forget to put your name on the marker when you make a good shot and are the closest. It will cost you money if you make the shot but your name is missing from the marker.

SLOW PLAY REMAINS A Very REAL PROBLEM - PLAY READY GOLF -- PLAY CONTINUOUS PUTTING -- A foursome should be able to complete the round in no longer than 4 hours and 15 minutes. Otherwise the course gets backed up and there are problems for all. If you have an open hole in front of you and players are waiting behind you, let them play through and invite them to play through. Doing the following will speed up play --
1) Play Ready Golf - That means the first one to the tee hits. Do not wait for an honor system. That means the first one on the fairway or in the rough who is ready to hit goes ahead and plays and does not wait for someone who is not ready just because they are away. The same goes for putting. The player who is ready first regardless of who is away goes ahead and putts. Practice continuous putting without waiting between putts for someone else to putt.
2) The biggest problem is looking for balls. -- The rule is three minutes but is most often ignored. If you hit the ball somewhere where you should not hit it such as deep in the trees or into heavy rough or into a ditch, do not waste time looking for a ball that cannot be found within the 3 minute rule or even if found with prolonged searching cannot be played anyway. Just take your penalty and drop another ball and play on.

  • Our regular games are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday - Check the top of the page for Tee Times and Show Times. No Game on a Federal Holiday.
    • Course Green Fees have increased.
    • Regular Senior Rate (60+) Monday - Thursday $48.00 (tax included). No senior rate available on weekends. Friday is considered a weekend day.
    • Our group has a special rate of $40.00 (tax included) (60+) for our M-W-T games for those not on an annual golf plan.
  • The Driving Range is open. Range balls are currently included with the Green Fee at no extra charge, and no charge to players on a membership golf program at any time. There is a $15.00 charge for unlimited range balls if you are coming only to practice and not to play and are not on a membership golf program.
  • The course requires pairing up in a golf cart. No single carts unless playing in a threesome.
  • Please do not drag your golf shoes on the greens.
  • Please keep the carts on the cart path on the Par 3 holes. Please keep the carts at least 30 yards from the greens and park the carts on the cart path when playing on the greens and playing from the tees. The golf course will enforce these rules. If we do not comply, we very well could lose the special benefits and privileges that the golf course grants our group. The management is very serious about this.
  • Since we have limited tee times, please do not bring guests to play on our tee times (such as visiting relatives etc). That will no longer be allowed. If you have guests that want to play, then make your own tee times to accommodate your guests.
  • The course now has tarps to protect the greens during a protracted freeze. The tarps are positioned at each green during the colder weather. They will be spread whenever the forecast is for 36-48 hours+ of a continuous freeze.
  • Please observe the course rules about where to drive the carts and do not move the wood posts or the wood fencing which are in place to keep carts away from certain areas.
  • Per the General Manager - Pace of Play is a problem. Please step up the pace of play and maintain contact with the group in front of you. Do not spend an excessive amount of time looking for balls. The rule is three minutes. Take your punishment penalty, drop a ball, and play on. Do not hold up the group behind you by ball hawking. Let faster groups play through if there is an open hole in front of you. Pace of play should be no longer than 4 hours 15 minutes for a foursome.
  • Scorecards are again becoming a problem due to very sloppy and often inaccurate scorekeeping. I remind all the players that once the scorecards are turned in, that is the official score. Scores for individual holes will not be changed on the card once I receive the card. The only exception is a score will be lowered to a triple bogey maximum when a quadruple bogey is accidentally entered. If the problem is just an error in simple addition of the hole by hole score, that will be corrected. Every player is responsible for checking their own score on the scorecard before it is turned in. The scorecard should be signed. If you fail to check your scorecard and there is an error on the card that costs you money, then that is just too bad. Then maybe you will check it next time. Please remember that there are "No Gimmies" in our game. All putts must be holed no matter how short the putt. That is the rule we all play by. There is money involved, and short putts can be missed. Failure to hole out your putts is not playing by the rules of our game.
  • If you are sick or just not feeling well, it is not a good idea to come and try to play especially on a hot day. Please stay home. -- If you know that you will be unable to complete the round and will have to leave during the round for an appointment or some other reason, please do not come and start to play when you know you will just have to leave in the middle of the round. It is not fair to the others playing in your group, and it will cost you money. The mini-tournament is 18 holes.
  • Watch the website for changes in the game schedule.

CURRENT BUNKER STATUS - 2 DEC 2024
Play Bunkers as GUR through the Winter
Will reassess in the Spring
BUNKER RULES WHEN BUNKERS ARE PLAYED
  1. The bunker is a hazard. There are no free drops out of a bunker unless the bunker is completely unplayable (e.g. full of water or undergoing maintenance).
  2. Ball in a footprint or an unraked area, then "rake and place" is in effect. Alternatively, the ball may be moved to an area in the bunker no nearer the hole where the ball can be played with no penalty. Only the center of the bunkers are being maintained and not the periphery. Watch out for rocks in the bunker, and move your ball away from rocks when necessary with no penalty.
  3. Ball in mud or a wet area in the bunker may be moved to a spot in the bunker no nearer the hole where the ball can be played with no penalty (casual water in a bunker rule).
  4. Please rake the bunker when finished.
  5. An embedded ball in the bunker (such as embedded under the lip) does not mean a free drop. It is subject to the "unplayable lie in a bunker rule" where the ball can be dropped in the bunker within two club lengths no nearer the hole under penalty of one stroke.
  6. If we play after significant rain, the bunkers may temporarily revert back to GUR. The decision will be made before the round begins.
  7. The best way to deal with the bunkers is not to hit into the bunker in the first place.

Handicap Revised Continuously on a Daily Basis (WHS)
Last Revision Posted On-Line 16 JAN 2025

10 DEC 2019 -- Our CMGA club handicap system is an internal club system based on the new World Handicap System (WHS) but is meant for local use only for the benefit of our members in our own events. Events outside our club may use the handicap at the discretion of the event committee, but they are not required to do so. The program has been updated to the new WHS club system. The members are not permitted to enter their own scores. The handicap is referred to as a "Club Handicap" and is no longer designated as a "USGA Handicap."

*******************************
1) For new members, an initial handicap can be established based on 3 rounds played with the group instead of the previous 5 rounds.
2) The handicap is based on the best 8 differentials of the last 20 scores. Previously the handicap was based on the best 10 differentials of the last 20 scores.
3) The handicap Index is revised continuously when each new score is recorded. Index adjustments are built into the system. You will have an updated current handicap each time you play.
4) There is now a small index adjustment penalty for exceptionally low scores built into the handicap program. The program is automatically updated whenever changes are implemented.
5) Weather conditions are not used in the WHS club system.

1 JAN 2025 — The following 6 players have been removed from the active handicap list and placed on inactive status for non payment of the handcap fee. Any player on the inactive list can be reactivated to actve status when the handicap fee ($20.00) is paid. No pro-rating the handicap fee for reactivation.

Jerry Bailey, Bill Capshaw, Ron Hoover,
Larry Loomis, Larry Redman, Aris Sunio

Quite a number of rule changes went into effect on 1 JAN 2019. Below is a YouTube video link which explains the 20 most significant rule changes (opens in a new window or tab). No significant rule changes since then for the amateur golfer. No significant changes are expected for 2025.

Home Course Designation — The designated Home Course for all the golfers in the CMGA system is Whitestone Golf Club (Red Tees). The handicap reflected on the listing is the Whitestone handicap from the Red Tees. Handicaps can be adjusted for other tees and courses by the Index. There are currently 20 active CMGA Golfers on the Handicap listing.

Current Mini-Tournaments - Monday and Wednesday, (Thursday by Advance Sign-up Only) (CMGA Members). The mini-tournaments are played using the Stableford point system. The ball is played up Through-the-Green which means the ball can be bumped a grip length. The maximum score recorded per hole for handicap purposes will be triple bogey. The points required for each player to pull is determined by his handicap using the 54 point total. For example, a player with an 18 handicap will be required to pull 36 (54-18) points. Stableford Points are as follows: Eagle 5, Birdie 4, Par 3, Bogey 2, Double Bogey 1, Triple Bogey 0. Since we play triple bogey maximum and the Red (Forward) tees, the maximum allowable playing handicap is 30 for the Stableford low net game.

1 JAN 2025 -- Note the weekly schedule at the top of the page as tee times and show times are changing and will continue to be somewhat variable for the immediate future. Players coming late may not be allowed to play with the group because tee times cannot be held up in order to reshuffle playing groups to accomodate latecomers.
